Human hair extensions are lengths of hair applied to natural hair by a variety of methods to achieve volume and length. Hair extensions can also be added to create the shading of highlights or lowlights. These additions to natural hair are mostly built up using real-human hair.
There're 2 widely-known methods in which to apply hair extension:
1. Bonded/fusion
A process in which the extension hair is bonded directly to your own hair by using heated glue sticks. In this method, an acrylic keratin glue stick is inserted inside a glue gun, which heats up and melts the glue. Then, the extension and the glue are attached directly onto the individual's hair.
2. Using micro rings - latest method (you can see my pic above)
Hair is attached with tiny rings that come in several colors for a close match to your hair color. They come in different sizes for different hair textures. Some of these micro products are made out of specially formulated polymer materials. Another material that is used for the micro rings is nickel. Both of these are used with a tool similar to a crochet hook that pulls a strand of your hair through the ring, you then slip the hair extension strand into the ring. Another tool is used to clamp the ring tight to hold the hair is place.
This is a great method that does not use glue and a great alternative for those afraid of the damage that glue may cause. This method is not recommended for hair that is brittle or extremely coarse.
Hair extensions can be shampooed, styled and brushed the same as your natural hair, but don’t try to alter their colour. This should be professionally carried out by a qualified stylist. The most important thing is to be gentle with it so as to increase the life of the bond attaching it and use a soft bristle brush, to brush out tangles from the bottom ends up towards your head. At night, to avoid matting, tie it up or braid it if it’s fairly long, and never sleep with wet or damp hair. Avoid using any silicone-based products or conditioners on the extension where it is bonded to your natural hair, as this will make the extension slip off.
If your extensions are made from real hair then straighten and curl away! However if you are using synthetic hair you shouldn't be using straightening irons or curling tongs as they will basically melt your extensions.
Hair extensions are a great way to adorn your lifestyle so why not have fun and treat yourself *like i did ;)
