We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth
—Virginia Satir, family therapist

Hugging is healthy. It helps the body's immune system, keeps you healthier; cures depression, reduces stress, induces sleep. It's invigorating and rejuvenating, has no unpleasant side effects, and hugging is nothing less than a miracle drug.

Hugging significantly increases your body's production of endorphins.Hugging is all natural. It's organic, naturally sweet, no pesticides, no preservatives, no artificial ingredients, and 100% wholesome. Hugging is practically perfect: no moving parts,no batteries to wear out, no periodic checkups, low energy consumption, high-energy yield, inflation-proof, non-fattening, no monthly payments, no insurance requirements, theft-proof, nontaxable, nonpolluting, and, of course, fully returnable.

There are several types of hugs:

1. The A-frame hug - this involves only the heads touching of each person. It is more formal in nature and generally used on new acquaintances or in a business setting.

2. The Heart-Centered hug - it is considered to be the highest form of hugging. This involves full body contact by both parties. This form of hugging acknowledges each other from deep within. It is usually reserved for very close friends and family.

3. The Self hug - this involves you hugging yourself. This hug allows you to show yourself love and compassion. It gives you a sense of self- worth.

Young Arab women wait in an upmarket medical clinic for an operation that will not only change their lives, but quite possibly save it. Yet the operation is a matter of choice and not necessity. It costs about 2,000 euros (£1,700) and carries very little risk.

Sonia wants to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal. She is a slender young brunette studying at art college in Paris.

Although born in France, Arab culture and traditions are central to Sonia's life. Life was strict growing up under the watchful eyes of a large traditional Arab family.

Now more and more of them are undergoing surgery to re-connect their hymens and hide any sign of past sexual activity. They want to ensure that blood is spilled on their wedding night sheets.

The social pressure is so great that some women have even taken their own lives.

With Chinese manufacturers leading the way, there are now non-surgical options on the market as well. One website sells artificial hymens for just £20 (23 euros). The Chinese hymen is made of elastic and filled with fake blood. Once inserted in the vagina, the woman can simulate virginity, the company claims.

It may be the 21st Century but the issue of virginity in Arab culture can still be a matter of life and death, especially for women like Sonia and Nada.

And while hymen repair may be a quick fix, it can't reconcile centuries of ingrained tradition with the attitudes of modern society.

This is ‘prada marfa’, an unusual building located in the desert near Marfa, Texas on an otherwise desolate stretch of highway 90. Behind the glass a selection of shoes and bags.

From the artists… the combination of a vast, open desert landscape in an un-populated area and a luxury goods store is completely unthinkable. Nature suits fashion as a visual backdrop, as one often sees in advertisement. The minimal, corporate Prada design and the desolate surrounding ranch land make a great impression together, but simultaneously the two forces also render each other useless.’

1. Survivor

Survivor premiered on CBS in May, 2000. The premise was new and exciting. A cast of strangers would be sent to a remote location. They would live without modern luxuries while competing for a $1 million prize. Survivor’s success lead to adventure-fueled reality TV competitions like the Amazing Race and The Mole.

2. The Bachelor

The Bachelor premiered in 2002 and took the dating game to a whole new level. Viewers couldn’t look away while watching hearts get broken every week – and they were surprisingly optimistic when weeks of drama and dating led to those tear-jerking proposals. The Bachelor led to plenty of copycat dating shows, from Fox’s The Littlest Groom to current cable shows like For the Love of Ray-J.

3. The Osbournes

Before The Osbournes premiered in 2002, celebrity worshipers would learn about the lives of their favorite stars by reading tabloid magazines or watching occasional TV interviews. Then, Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon Osbourne did something that many celebrities would not have been brave enough to do. They welcomed MTV into their home, allowing reality TV cameras to film their everyday lives. The list of celebrity reality shows that followed The Osbournes now seems endless.

4. American Idol

American Idol made its debut in 2002. Aspiring singers would compete each week in front of a panel of judges. Only the best contestants would move forward as the competition continued each week. But American Idol offered much more entertainment than that. Unlike TV talent shows before it, Idol invited viewers into the audition process from the very beginning. American Idol quickly became must-see TV and it’s no surprise the format has been attempted on several other reality shows in the past decade.

5. The Apprentice

The Apprentice premiered in the winter of 2004, and with two little words uttered by "the Donald," the show became one of the year’s biggest hits. “You’re fired” became the catchphrase of an addictive show that made even the most cut-throat workplaces look like a walk in the park. Backstabbing, betrayal, and one brutally-honest boss was the formula for success on The Apprentice. The Apprentice may have influenced other work-related reality TV competitions such as Hell’s Kitchen.

6. Laguna Beach

It was hard to tell when MTV’s Laguna Beach premiered in 2004, using a new approach to reality TV that would later be duplicated on hit shows like The Hills and The Real Housewives franchise. Some refer to this type of reality show as a docusoap. Docusoaps play out like scripted TV dramas and the players are shown in situations that often dramatize or glamorize real life.

7. Project Runway

When Bravo announced In 2004 that it would air a reality show about aspiring fashion designers, it wasn't exactly guaranteed that the show would be a hit. Did enough people even care about the fashion world to tune in? It turns out that it didn’t matter. Project Runway proved that whether it’s a show about fashionistas or dog groomers, viewers will tune in if there are enough colorful personalities and drama ever week. Top Chef is just one example of the successful shows that followed Project Runway.

8. Dancing With the Stars

Dancing with the Stars became an instant hit when it debut in the summer of 2005. There was something about a celebrity two-stepping out their comfort zone that appealed to viewers who were hungry for something new. It led to popular So You Think You Can Dance show nowadays.

9. Flavor of Love

We have already put another dating competition on this list. And yes, The Bachelor is indeed the daddy of all love-related reality shows. But the dating competition Flavor of Love makes our list for another reason. The VH1 reality show, which premiered in winter 2006, gave birth to a new breed of reality TV – the trashy kind on which drunk, brawling babes and x-rated hot tub scenes are the norm.

10. Jon & Kate Plus 8

Jon & Kate Plus 8, which premiered on the Discovery network in 2007, followed Jon and Kate Gosselin, their twin daughters, and their young octuplets. Since the success of Jon & Kate Plus 8, we’ve been seeing a lot more reality shows chronicling the lives of non-celebrities. Shows such as Little People, Big World, which follows a family that is affected by dwarfism, and Ruby, which follows a morbidly obese woman, are some of the latest examples.

A Polish zoo has invested millions in the largest elephant house in Europe. Hopes were high that Ninio would sire a whole herd, but he's showing a lack of interest in females that could cost him his place at the zoo.

Gays, Jews, and animal rights activists in the Polish town of Poznan have a new hero.

10-year-old Ninio is already an outcast. Born in an Israeli zoo, he has changed towns because nobody wanted to keep him.

Here is the issue with Ninio: he's not interested in female elephants, and his attitude to males has been described as 'affectionate.'

But zoo keepers are not certain that this means he is gay.

Zoo keeper Robert Dabrowski says we should wait and see.

“Elephants reach sexual maturity by 14, so he is just a baby,” Dabrowski says adding “we put him in a separate cage because of his previous bad behavior. He is big so he can bully smaller ones."

So Ninio has a few years before his sexuality can be determined, but he's already become somewhat of a white elephant for the zoo. They spent $11 million on this house for a big herd, and as one local politician put it, not for a gay elephant to live here.
